Canine Cancer Foundation

presented by Morris Animal Foundation

Cancer Research

Through the Canine Cancer Campaign, Morris Animal Foundation is creating a healthier tomorrow for dogs. Research funded through the campaign will help develop prevention strategies, test new treatments, establish tools for cancer researchers and train new scientists specializing in cancer research. By supporting this campaign, you can help to one day cure this disease that affects so many of our "best friends."

The Canine Cancer Campaign supports:

New Treatments: One of the many treatment studies under way is a campaign-funded clinical trial that is testing rapamycin, a promising drug to fight bone cancer. Numerous veterinary institutions are collaborating on this project, which is led by scientists at the National Cancer Institute.

Tumor Tissue Bank: Campaign funding established the Pfizer-CCOGC Biospecimen Repository, which includes samples of the most common canine cancers. These samples are helping scientists study cancer and determine why one dog with a specific cancer responds to therapy and another does not.

Prevention Strategies: Morris Animal Foundation–funded researchers are analyzing cancer susceptibility in golden retrievers, of which an estimated 60 percent die of cancer. Read more about our partnership with the Golden Retriever Foundation to fund a $1 million study to look at genetic risk factors for cancer.

Training: The Foundation is funding programs at Colorado State University and the University of Minnesota, which are training students who plan to become scientists specializing in cancer.
